Scenes from Coaching Days & Coaching Ways By Special Permission of Macmillan & Co & LTD

Beautiful set of two mustard colored ceramic plates

They feature white filigree scroll designs around the edge of the plate with a darker brown around the edges

The edges are scalloped

Each has a different sketch from the Coaching Days and Coaching Ways collection printed in black

The first plate features a stagecoach scene  with couple in a black coach with two horses pulling it at run, and driver on the back the horse

The background is  a country scene with a small hill and bushes along a dirt road

It is signed Cloper under the horses feet

This one seems to be a more rare design

The second plate features a dinner party with three men sitting at table with one man (Henry the 8th) cutting a side of beef, and two men dressed in monk robes nearby

The front says “Henry the eight and the Abbott of Reading ” I would give 100 pounds could I feed so gustly on beef as you do”‘

The plates are ceramic

The backs have two stamps on them

One of the stamps is a black urn with an anchor and flowers coming out of it that says “Published by Ridgways 1814 Renaissance England”

The second stamp is in a shield shape with filigree around it and says “Scenes from Coaching Days & Coaching Ways By Special Permission of Macmillan  & Co & LTD Ridgway England”

Both also have the number 29 impressed into the back

Very nice set

Both decorative and functional

Great decorations or great gift ideas

Measures approx 6.75″ diameter

There is some age crazing to the glossy glaze along the ridge of the plates and on the back

Otherwise really no signs of wear

No chips or cracks

Very good shape
